The Last Days of Evolution sees Celine return proper, dropping their first new music since the pre-pandemic demos that signalled their return in 2020. Some of those same songs appear here in finished form, side by side with newer tracks forged in lockdown conditions & the occasional face to face gathering to track drums and reconnect over veg fried rice and gummy lollies. Operating as a virtual entity led the creative process in new directions, taking basic song structures and building out jams into expansive, detailed and layered compositions. A new sense of pop emerged, and while this canon of songs digs deeper into the exploration of space in music that Celine is known for, it goes further to reveal the band’s newfound sense of freedom to experiment and play with new forms.
Participation in the project by New York based producer Andrew Schneider as mixer and bassist brought a new energy to the music, imbuing the songs with a sonic heft and honeyed sparkle that totally rips with a killer mastering by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service.
